Session 7 - Digital Fluency Intensive

Session 7 - Digital Fluency Intensive

In this session we have learnt about how the tukana and teina model is used in the Manaiakalani Kaupapa to connect us into a powerful network. The use of technology has made the connection amongst our schools more effective as it empower us to share   in many different ways like google plus, twitter and many others.  It was also brought to our attention that all Manaiakalani schools have common shared language which is very crucial.  Our Manaiakalani pedagogy is Learn, Create, Share.  Our kaupapa is the four elements: Connected, Ubiquitous, Empowered and Visible.  We have now understood the importance of having a common shared language within our Manaiakalani schools.

In addition, we also explored a variety of tools that could help us with our workflow.  We began with how we can organised our bookmarks and how to deal with having too many tabs open by using One Tab or Toby.  This is very helpful as I am now going to tidy up my bookmarks using One Tab which I have already installed on my computer.

We were looking at google hangouts in the afternoon and this was interesting as many of us have not use it before.  We had practice few times and I am so glad that I managed to do very well.  I can see the use of this tool with teachers but I still need to think very carefully about how I can use it with my students.  Here is a link to one of the task we have to do through Google Hangouts. We also learnt how to schedule a google hangouts and we have to organise a hangout with one of the facilitators for next week.  I have done the invitation and has been accepted so I have put in into my google calendar.

Students has been working on their pepeha and will be using screencastify to record themselves.
I have been practising how to use google keep.
What has worked for you?
My workflow has slightly improved as I have been using some of the tips and tricks I have learnt for the past sessions such as sorting out my work into folders, getting my students to put all their work into the right folder, having an emphasis on how to label their blog posts, Using cybersmart language more often and had a thorough discussion about how to deal with negative comments online. This has raised students' awareness and hopefully it will empower to do the right thing if it ever happen to them.
What hasn’t worked (or made sense)
At the moment I have not got anything that does not work for me and may be because I have not tried everything I have been learning in the past 5 weeks. This will be my challenge for the last four weeks, is to put everything I have learnt into practice.
What do you need help with?
I need help on how to organise my new site. and learn how to embed websites on a blog posts.

Session Five - Digital Fluency Intensive 2018

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
I have learnt in this session that I should not use Cyberbullying but just called it Bullying. I have also learned that teaching students to be cybersmart empowers them to be able to deal with any negative comments they received online such as taking a screenshot which they can use as evidence when talking to appropriate people or agencies. This will turn them from victim to victor.

Session Four - Digital Fluency Intensive 2018

Today I have to use screencastify to record my Pepeha.  Whaea Ngaure Tauhara-White us to write it up and she also assist us with the pronunciation.  It has been a challenge for most of us as we have not done it before.   Recording myself was quite exciting because it is my first time to use screencastify and honestly I have to do it few times before I got it right.  Here is a voice record of my pepeha.

Session 2 - Digital Fluency Intensive 2018

My first day at the Digital Fluency Intensive class was an eye opener.  It reminded me that I am living in an evolving world where change is inevitable and so as technology.  I was completely overwhelmed by the amount knowledge and skills that I learned during this session.  Now, I have to think of I could implement it in my own classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact, that frustration really tested my patience to stay optimistic by maintaining a growth mindset.  Below, is an evidence of what we did at the end of the class.  Although it took me a while but 'YES' I completed it. This task was to used google map to create our own map.   We also learned about how to use google form and google spreadsheet more effectively.  I can't wait to see what our next class will bring.
